Varna ranks second by overnight stays in Q3 2011

 


Revenue from overnight stays of Bulgaria's municipality of Varna exceeded 126 million leva in the third quarter of 2011, with foreigners contributing 87.5 per cent of the total, data by Varna's Regional Statistical Office showed on November 25 2011. In terms of overnight numbers in July-September, Varna municipality ranked second in the country after the municipality of Bourgas.

The municipality accounted for 26.8 per cent of the total number of overnights in Bulgaria in the quarter and generated 30.5 per cent of the country's revenue from accommodation services.

Varna recorded an increase of up to 60 per cent in the number of accommodation establishments and a 10.7 per cent rise in overnight stays in July-September. The number of holidaymakers went up by 16.5 per cent on the year.

Varna had 242 hotels, 124 lodgings and 80 other accommodation establishments in the quarter, which had total registered beds of 55 404, down 5.4 per cent year-on-year.

The municipality's revenue from overnight stays rose by 288 000 leva in annual terms to 2.985 million leva. The growth was attributed to a 12.4 per cent increase in foreigners' overnight stays to 2.5 million and a 3.1 per cent rise in overnight stays of Bulgarian residents to 5.2 million.


Most foreign tourists came from Germany, Russia, Romania and Poland.
